Birthday Gift Part 4

“Mom forgot to give you this tiffin. So, I thought I will come and give this to you.”, I was smiling and working on my mischief. My smile was doing the trick as he was constantly blushing and wasn’t able to keep his eyes up for a long time. “You know Ritesh, you have been living here for more than 3 years but you never showed me your house. Won’t you show me today?”, I said rolling my saree pallu. “Oh … yes … sure. It is a bit dirty. I hope you don’t mind.”, he said. He was blushing as if he was talking to a real girl. I had seen him stammer or behave uncomfortable whenever we would talk to some girl in our college. Then he started showing me the room where he stayed. There was not much there besides books, a mattress, a fan and an electric stove with two or three vessels. He then took me to the balcony and said, “You will definitely like this Priya. The view from here is amazing.”, he felt proud when he said this. I followed him and walked upto the balcony. I wrapped the saree p...

Birthday Gift Part 4

It was around noon. I was in the bedroom reading a book and still in a salwar that I wore that morning. I heard a doorbell and mom opening up the door. I heard the voice of a boy but I couldn’t figure out who he was. I got occupied with my reading again. But after about 10 minutes, Neha di called me to come out. I just came out adjusting my dupatta that kept slipping over my arms. As soon as I came out I saw that there was a boy. And he was none other than my friend Ritesh. He lives in the same building as us, and lives with 3 other boys of his age. We both belong to the same batch in the college, and we do projects together. Then I recalled that I had informed him about my sister’s birthday sometime back. Since he knew Neha di too, he must have come to wish her a happy birthday. Being a prankster myself, I thought let me have fun. I just hope Neha di didn’t tell him that I am Pravin in a girl’s getup. I gently held my dupatta in my hand and walked as femininely I could manage to...

Birthday Gift Part 3

Birthday Gift Part 3  Now that Neha di was once again talking to me, I was happy once again. In fact, I was having fun with my dupatta and gesturing like girls but in a more exaggerated way, or you could even say in a more boyish way. “Priya, can’t you be a little more serious, and try to be more like my sister?”, Neha di scolded me because of the way I was behaving  “Ok, di”, I said trying to mimic a girl’s voice but I ended up laughing after it. You see one might think that I would have felt embarrassed or shy being in girls’ clothes. But I did not. I was too confident in my self as a boy and as my sister’s brother. I was just doing this for my sister. So I took it as fun. And because of my confident personality, I could do it without feeling embarrassed or shy. Think about it, does Amir Khan feel embarrassed to act as a woman? No, because he is confident about his life as an actor. He knows that by dressing up as a woman, that wouldn’t change his demand as an actor. He does...

Birthday Gift Part 2

Part 2  “Now, come with me. Your sister should be up anytime now. It is almost 7 o’clock.” I went out to the hall with mom and sat their waiting for my sister to come out. When she came out, she touched mom’s feet and took her blessing as is the custom to do on someone’s birthday. In the meanwhile, I was standing their turning my back towards Neha di. “Mom, who’s this girl? And what is she doing early in the morning here during a lockdown?”, Neha di asked mom. “Go, check her out and see if you recognize her.”, mom said. “Mom, don’t play games with me in the early morning. Tell me who she is.” “Why don’t you go and ask her yourself?”, mom said. As Neha di started approaching towards me, my heart beat got faster and faster. “Hello, may I know who is this?”, she asked as got near me. I turned around and hugged her tightly without giving her a chance to look at my face, and I shouted, “Happy birthday!” “That sounds like Pravin’s voice. Oh my god! Is that you Pravin?”, di said and she t...

Birthday Gift

Birthday Gift  Part 1 :   Angry Sister  But Dad!” “I am sorry sweetheart. But I am stuck until the end of this lockdown. There are no means available for me to travel.” That was my sister Neha and my father talking. My sister was upset because our father couldn’t be there for her birthday next week. He had been stuck in Chennai for more than a month now since the lockdown began. In all these years, he had always ensured that he was not on his business trips so that he could be there for his children’s birthdays. But not this time. My sister Neha is usually a chirpy bubbly kind of girl, but she can get emotional too. She is affectionate and caring. I, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about others. I am more like a prankster and a little selfish about my approach. To tell you more about my family, we live in Goa. My sister is 23 and is working as an HR manager for a multinational company. I am 21, an engineering college student in the final year. My mother r...
